There are many people who say milk isn’t cruel, because it doesn’t involve killing. Well, milk DOES involve torture and eventually death...
Milk is produced by the cow for its calf, and is not for you or any other animals.
Calves are separated from their mothers on the first night since they were born, and from then onwards, they are forced to eat on an adult cow’s diet, which obviously, the calf isn’t ready for. This separation is very traumatic and distressing for both, the mother and the calf. Cows are also the second most motherly animals after humans and the mother-and-calf bond takes place almost immediately. A cow can only produce milk only after it has given birth to a calf and so cows are made pregnant repeatedly and have the suffer the same separation, again and again!
Milk is not good for you either, evidence shows that consuming cow’s milk in particular contributes to obesity, ear infections, constipation, respiratory problems, heart disease, runny noses, asthma and some
cancers. Milk can also contribute to Osteoporosis. How? The simple explanation to this is- Milk is acidic. When any acidic substance enters your body, it must be neutralized before it mixes with your blood; your body releases calcium from your bones as a method of neutralization and therefore your body looses calcium.
Cows are so over-milked that they get udder infections, which means the milk you drink may also contain traces of blood and pus.
After a cow (our 'milk machines') cannot produce produce any more milk, they are sent to the dreaded place- The Slaughter House!
Giving up milk can be a very big move to make. Also, you may think giving up milk is unhealthy for you, but actually, It's healthier than a non-vegetarian lifestyle, as long as you eat right... A person who does not consume milk, eggs or any animal products is called a Vegan. For info on veganism click here.
